SA Heart offers delegates in need an opportunity to apply for an educational grant to cover the costs of attending the congress. Educational grants may cover congress registration and/or travel costs.

The educational grant process aligns with MedTech and SAMED guidelines, including the direct/indirect sponsorship rules. The 2023 SA Heart Congress has applied through the MedTech Conference Vetting System (CVS) and the assessment has determined the congress to be provisionally compliant (reference number EMT 34512). Confirmation can be found on the following link: https://www.ethicalmedtech.eu/medtech-apps/cvs/view-event/EMT34512

The educational grant application portal closed at 23h59 on Monday 17th July 2023. No late applications will be considered.

NOTE: Educational grant applicants will be advised by email as to whether they have been successful in securing funding by close of business on Friday 8th September 2023.

DISBURSEMENT OF EDUCATIONAL GRANTS RECEIVED FROM INDUSTRY PARTNERS

The allocation of educational grants for the SA Heart Congress 2023 is managed by the SA Heart Education Committee. All funds received are used solely and exclusively for the mandate of grant applications received for the annual congress alone. No funds are used for any other SA Heart projects, annual activities or association running costs.

The SA Heart Educational Committee members involved in the grant disbursement process are not disclosed to the public in order to protect against external influences and incentives.

The funds are distributed fairly for national applicants and may include registration fees, cost-effective flights and (where requested) accommodation at an affordable hotel.

Preference is given to paid up SA Heart members, delegates who contribute to the scientific programme or with meaningful academic involvement in other SA Heart activities, applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who fulfill the criteria as stipulated by the sponsor allocating restricted grants.

Under the current challenging economic conditions, SA Heart continues to strive to maintain an annual congress with an exceptionally high international standard, utilizing expertise from all over the world and bringing together dedicated academics from across the country to showcase the talent in South Africa. We hope to expose delegates to a wide range of issues pertinent to advancing cardiovascular care and to foster a collaborative environment at the congress and beyond.
